The Wishmaster film has always held a special place in my heart since I first witnessed the grotesque carnage on the screen when I was a teenager. I was blown away by the brilliant use of practical effects and the killer performance from the great but underrated actor Andrew Divoff as The Djinn. So when I got word about a novelization of Wishmaster I was floored and requested a copy to review. If you have not been exposed to this masterpiece of horror cinema and now novel, I will give you a quick synopsis without giving too much away.
The ancient evil known as a Djinn is resurrected from a fiery gem prison by accident and is unleashed upon the earth. If he grants three wishes all hell will be let loose upon humanity and the Djinn will sit atop a mountain of gore as king of this universe. The only person who can put an end to this madness is Alexandra Amberson a mere mortal against a darkness older than humankind. This is the ultimate battle of good versus evil.
If the synopsis doesn’t grab you by the throat then this book may not be for you, but if you dig indescribable evils and eternal torment then this one will be for you. Christian Francis really nailed the dark foreboding theme of the film and transcribed it perfectly into this novel. While I was reading along I could picture everything from the movie happening all over again in my head. The Wishmaster novel is a perfect companion piece to the film. I think the book expands the story more and you really get to know the characters on a deeper level. The evil of the Djinn definitely takes hold of you while you read along and delve deeper into the madness.
The Wishmaster novel is a complete success and a killer tribute to the film in which I love. I really enjoyed reading this one immensely and I definitely recommend you check it out. If you are a fan of the great Clive Barker or King’s work then this one is for you. I give the Wishmaster a 9.5 out of 10 score and you can find it now on Amazon to buy.Horrorwolf666
